(Senior) R&D Systems Engineer - Life Sciences (m/f/d)

Your mission

We are looking for a skilled (Senior) R&D Systems Engineer (m/f/d) to strengthen our team and help shape the next generation of our technology. In this role, you will be working at the interface of process automation, mechatronics and fluidics. You will take responsibility for cross-functional engineering projects to enhance system performance and reliability during the product lifecycle while collaborating closely with internal stakeholders and external contract development and manufacturing partners. 

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead continuous engineering initiatives and design updates for our preclinical Polarizer Polaris throughout its  lifecycle
  • Review critical design and component choices from external partners and provide structured technical feedback
  • Maintain and organize the Design History File (DHF) securing consistency between specifications, verification activities, risk management and design changes to guarantee product compliance and support efficient production
  • Oversee the engineering of the fluidic subsystem: Technical dimensioning, sizing, and integration of complex thermal and fluidic processes to ensure optimized system performance
  • Develop and evaluate functional prototype assemblies to validate design changes, mitigate technical risks, and prove out system improvements
  • Define and structure comprehensive verification strategies of engineering requirements and ensure systematic test execution.
  • Coordinate and execute hands-on lab testing on the preclinical Polaris system, evaluate results, and provide technical feedback
  • Partner with the service team to provide 3rd-level engineering support, converting field feedback and root-cause analyses into actionable inputs for the system design  

Your profile

  • Degree in Engineering or a related technical field
  • 3+ years of professional experience in an interdisciplinary R&D environment following a structured development process
  • Experience in driving technical project work, managing product design documentation and providing technical expertise to navigate regulatory compliance (e.g. IEC 61010)
  • Strong background in multi-disciplinary engineering principles with core expertise in mechatronics, complex fluidic architectures, thermodynamics and mechanical design
  • Extensive hands-on lab experience, ideally in the field of automated, multi-step chemical or fluidic processes
  • Demonstrated experience in analysing complex systems at a high level.
  • Good communication skills and ability to coordinate cross-functional teams and external partners
  • Experience in working with development and manufacturing partners
  • Passion for innovative products and the work in an interdisciplinary team
  • Fluent in English
